What can be a more crucial factor of your work than your time/schedule? It basically carries and affects everything else that surrounds our work life; from how you are supposed to do a task to how you're gonna earn from it. And according to studies, it takes an average of 20-24 minutes for us to be able to focus after a distraction. That’s why everything you do, time is consumed, and it’s only up to us to use it wisely.
But here, we are gonna focus on Web Developers and how to master time management.
It is very crucial for web developers to have a proper, organized and planned schedule and list of to-dos. This helps sort and bring tasks into pocket-sized issues as to help in the task management. Below are helpful tips if you want to master time management.
Plan everything first
- Every good outcome is a result of thorough planning. It opens more possibilities and project’s capabilities in an early stage and points out possible defects as precautions. Planning a project doesn’t just come overnight, it could last days and weeks depending on the complexity of the project. So planning can also require a tremendous amount of patience which leads to our second point of the list.
Exercise your patience
- No matter how ahead of time your plan is, if you don’t have the patience, it will all come down to nothing. Let’s say you have just the perfect plan for a project, but having patience to break them down to little bits and study every aspect and every detail can break your patience. You may want to just go with it because you already got the idea. The most misunderstood part of time-management is “doing it early is doing it right”, which totally does not apply in every case. Take time to dive deeper and explore.
Stay away from distraction
- And by this, the most common distraction is social media. It greatly affects how you spend your time and can even alter your mindset. It is time consuming, and to be frank, that time goes to waste. It doesn’t mean that you are not allowed to have a break and entertainment, but to include social media on your time of work is not a healthy habit.
Consider time trackers
- There’s a lot of time-tracking applications that the majority of web developers are using these days. If you admittedly can’t keep up on doing some planning and taking down notes, this could be a great alternative. Time tracking can manage your tasks in a given time so you can monitor what it is that needs more time to finish.
Not everything can be perfect
- Trying to perfect every aspect of your project can be a major distraction, instead, make sure everything’s doing their purpose. This can lead to having balance on what’s important. If you are to focus only on perfecting the interface, functionalities can be possibly disregarded, maybe not at all but can be for a while when it should be done earlier. Being able to accept that it is good is an advantage to sort priorities with better time management.
Treat yourself
- What drives us to be better at something is the positive outcome it may result. Including this in your time management can be rewarding. Like scheduling some beach vacation after an exhausting project gives you the break you deserve and shouldn’t be ignored. Recharge yourself for your next time-wrecking-management.
Above are not secrets no one knows, in fact, they are the obvious but apparently few only apply to themselves. Web developers are stressing over how to better manage their time, working nonstop is not the only thing that defines how you are as a worker, however, mastering time management is what reflects to you and your career.
