Essential Skill Set for Digital Marketers

If you’re into Digital Marketing, you probably know how broad the job is. It’s not just about promoting products, services and people online, it also focuses on maintaining the brand and growing with them; their growth basically depends on you.

The basic skills required for this career may sound a little superficial. You may have skills to sell products, or you are good at talking with people, and active on social media platforms that can be a medium for your business. - Yes, those are the basics to kickstart. But if we were to dive deeper and explore the core of Digital Marketing that big and important companies require, you may wanna continue reading this and we’ll get into that.

Here are some Essential Skill Set for Digital Marketers

  • Knows How to Write - if you are thinking this is easy-peasy, you got it right - but, you need to know what to write. You gotta know the right terms, resources and target. Copywriting also plays a huge role in Digital Marketing. Although this doesn’t mean writing a whole essay, you need to understand that you need to put yourself into your customer’s shoes. They want it short, simple, direct to the point yet impactful.

  • Knows How to Read - If you know how to write then you definitely know how to read. In Digital Marketing, reading thoroughly everything is a must. Your reading comprehension will get you high places. In a more technical explanation, reading and analyzing data on the whats and whys of a certain project is essential. It usually gives you a headstart and advantages on how to successfully execute your marketing strategy.

  • Knows How to Optimize - One of the key roles and most crucial roles in Digital Marketing would probably be Website Optimization or Search Engine Optimization. It defines how a website will perform to reach a wider audience and rank in Google. It keeps the website accessible and easy to find in Google search results, and will eventually turn visitors into leads.

  • Content Creation - A great content whether it is on a website or social media will more likely to attract potential customers. Contents from images, to blogs and even banners and logos should be taken seriously. You don’t need to be a graphic designer for this role (but you can be if you want to), you just need to focus on what really it is that your brand is presenting and just avoid unnecessary elements. However, in content writing or blogging, the need for accuracy and reliability are on top of the list. Your audience will rely on your content so you don’t want to confuse them or worse, lie to them.

  • Collaborative - Digital Marketing is a very interactive career. You get to meet new people, learn new things from different perspectives and even find new friends. I bet you know there’s a lot of influencers now in this generation, mostly on Instagram, TikTok and Youtube. You can take this opportunity to market your product and collaborate with these influencers. It takes patience but sure it is worth it in the end. And if you want a more formal, sophisticated collaboration, you can also work alongside companies and even other marketers. But know that it won’t be easy sometimes, for some, you need to gain their respect and trust first as there’s a lot at risk in this industry.

  • Paid AdvertisingIt is getting more and more competitive in our digital world. And it seems like everything you need to access has a payment in return. This also applies in advertising. Organic advertising is still surely an effective approach, but if you want to step-up and compete, paid advertising should be on top of your skills.

  • Write EmailsLike it or not, email will be the most active social media you're gonna have once you enter Digital Marketing. You can reach and acquire customers and collaborators using email, as long as you know how to properly compose a good one!

Sounds easy, right? And yes, absolutely easy. But patience and dedication will be the judge if you’re really up for it. It will take a lot of your time and can be very confusing most of the time. But that’s just how it is, all other careers will require a lot from you, so what are you gonna be? Be a doer.
